Thank you for your interest in the Tremont Writers Conference, held October 23-27, 2024, in Townsend, Tennessee.

Small-group morning workshops in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry take place outdoors and are led by faculty members Monic Ductan (fiction), Maurice Manning (poetry), and David Brill (nonfiction). Guest author Frank X Walker, the first African American Kentucky Poet Laureate and co-founder of the Affrilachian Poets, will lead several sessions for the entire group, including a craft talk with conversation. Visit writers.gsmit.org for more information.

Applications may be submitted through April 30, 2024. Accepted participants will be notified by July 14, 2024.

Acceptance to conference workshops in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry is based on manuscript evaluation. Though you may submit more than one application, each one must be for one genre only: fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. We recommend uploading your strongest work, regardless of publication status. Do not include your name anywhere in your manuscript or in the file name. This will allow us to share your work with readers who will be able to judge your work without knowing your identity. Please mention if your pieces have been published and where. See the manuscript guidelines for more information.

The cost is $1,600 per person and includes meals and lodging inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At the bottom of the form there is the opportunity to apply for financial aid. This will not affect whether you are offered a spot at the 2024 Tremont Writers Conference. We may offer a limited number of partial scholarships up to $500 per participant based on availability and/or eligibility. Any awards must be used in the year they are granted. We will notify you of the amount that you were awarded.

Please note, there is a $4 application fee to offset administration costs.
